THE GSBC SPIRITS FOOTBALL AND CHEERLEADING
PROGRAM INCORPORATES MENTORING AS A COMPONENT OF ITS PROGRAM TO HOLISTICALLY DEVELOP OUR PARTICIPANTS. THE PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY TO IMPACT THE LIVES OF OUR PARTICIPANTS BY NURTURING AND DEVELOPING LIFE SKILLS TRAINING AND COACHING. OUR GOAL IS TO PROVIDE ACTIVITIES THAT WILL INCREASE OR DEVELOP THE NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE AND LIFE SKILLS TO ASSIST OUR YOUTH TO BECOMING PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS. MENTORING ACTIVITIES WILL BE INCORPORATED INTO THE SEASON ACTIVITIES BUT FOR THOSE WHO CHOOSE THIS PROGRAM WILL BE OFFERED YEAR ROUND.
Our mentoring program has three main components: Academics, Behavior & Community Service. Throughout the course of the season and during the post-season, student-athletes will be required to submit interim reports (progress reports) and report cards for the Coordinator of Instruction's review. Student-athletes who maintain A/AB Honor Roll each quarter and/or perfect attendance will be recognized through the use of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. In an effort to reinforce school-wide expectations for behavior, student-athletes will also be eligible to receive incentives for exhibiting respectful, positive behavior in school. Participants will be immersed in opportunities to exhibit characteristics that are consistent with the philosophy of the GSBC Spirits program. Those characteristics include:
Student athletes will also have opportunities to engage in community service projects that impact their communities and provide them an opportunity to enhance their resumes/service learning experience. While assisting community members in need, this initiative also helps student-athletes become more "marketable" in their aspirations to apply to colleges.
