On Tuesday August 30, 2016 the GSBC Spirits held its initial Mentoring Session with the focus on getting prepared for the opening of school. Coordinator of Instruction, Sinclair Harris, engaged student-athletes in a dialogue about how sports and academics tie together and discussed strategies that students and parents can implement in order to ensure high levels of academic achievement.
As the mentoring program monitors student academic progress, students will be required to submit their interim reports (progress reports) and their report cards (end of nine week grades). Those students showing progress and high levels of academic achievement will receive incentives.
In an effort to support schools' PBIS(Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports) systems, student behavior is also monitored through weekly correspondences with student-athletes' teachers and administrators and recorded in Class Dojo. Students maintaining positive behavior over a weekly period will also be recognized!
